Gingerbread Cookies in a Jar

There’s nothing more thoughtful than a homemade gift at the holidays. Cookies in a jar allow everyone to share the joy of fresh-baked treats (without requiring you to spend hours in the kitchen.) This gift is perfect for teachers, co-workers, troop leaders, and coaches.

What You’ll Need:
• 1 quart mason jar (wide mouth works best)
• dry ingredients for gingerbread cookies (see instructions below)
• 6 ½ inch x 6 ½ inch scrap of cotton fabric
• thin rubber band
personalized holiday labels
• 2 ½ inch x 2 ½ inch solid color cardstock
• corner rounder (optional)
• hole punch
• recipe for gingerbread cookies (see instructions below)
• 2 inch x 2 inch square printable label sheet (optional)
• 24 inch piece of ribbon

Step 1: Layer dry ingredients in the mason jar the following order:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon allspice
¼ teaspoon cloves
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup brown sugar

Step 2: Attach the lid. Place your cotton fabric over it and secure with a rubber band.

Step 3: Adhere your personalized holiday label to the center of your cardstock. You can round the corners if desired. Punch a hole in the top center of your tag.

Step 4: Include the recipe on the opposite side of your tag. You can do this by handwriting it or typing it and printing it onto a 2-inch square label sheet. (Sold at your local office supply store.) Recipe should read as follows:

Directions:
Beat together 2 sticks on unsalted butter, 1/3 cup molasses, and 1 egg. Blend in gingerbread cookie mix. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours. Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll dough out to ¼ thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut out gingerbread people and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Step 5: Thread the tag onto your ribbon and tie in a bow over the rubber band.
